Highboy Steering
hey guys i have another question. i want to put integratde power steering on my 70 highboy my question is how do you get the 79 4x4 box to work and will it work wih my new 460 clearance wise and will it come out with a better result in the end than the 2wd box

Is your truck a 4x4? Also do you have headers that will interfere with the steering rod that connects the column to the steering gearbox? I put a 460 in my '72 4x4, the '79 gearbox was the only option for me due to the location of the power steering pump, it interefered with any gearbox that would mount on the inside of the frame. Also do you have coils or leaf springs? this will determine what kind of steering linkage you may want to use. I've been through this one recently, hopefully I can help a little.

High Boys are 1967/76 & 1977 (before serial # Y20,001) F250 4WD's.
High Boy's have front leaf springs.

i have the landl shorty headers and was going to use a two by steering box out of a 72 f250 but i didnt like the clearance between the pit manj arm and the leaves. and every post about the 79 box shows it on the inside of the frame and im just confused on what to do i need pictures and all the info i can get i am a fair fabrictor so thats not an issue. would and ifs chevy box work kinda want to go with crosover

The '79 4x4 box mounts on the outside of the frame and could be used for crossover steering but the '79 had coil springs so there was no clearance issues with the pitman arm. I wanted crossover steering also but did not want to lift the truck to create more clearence between the leafs and the frame. I settled for a short draglink to the curved steering arm that bolts to the steering knuckle and used the '79 bronco steering box. Also had to put a left hand worm gear in the box from a 2x gearbox. Sounds like alot of trouble but ended up being pretty simple. I also took 1.5 inches out of the curved steering arm for tighter steering and at the same time flipped the ball joint reciever over so it had better alignment to the pitman arm. so does the 79 bronco box bolt to the inside or outside and any pics you have you can send them to hemisweet05@aol.com
