when i had the inspection covor off for a former problem i noticed there was a lot of oil like a rear main seal. it was down the back of the engine, on on oil pan, but below the turbo it seems there is a bunch of oil there, and when i give it a lil throttle there is some smoke comin out from under there
and what is the lil rod sticking out, it can move in and out
thats the exhaust backpressure valve activator. your bd exhaust brake took the place of the stock butterfly valve that the rod clipped to. that is the source of your leak. odds are the turbo pedastool is egged out and thats why its leaking, you can try resealing it with new o-rings but if that rod has been disconected for some time then you probably need a new pedastool
IMO the best way to go about sealing it up is to remove the turbo. gut the acutator cylinder then cut the barrel off and weld up the holes. It will never leak again as long as you get good welds on it. It will look like this
With you exhuast brake there is no reason to reseal or replace the pedestal. Just get rid of the actuator
if you dont have access to a tig welder you can always remove the valve and tap the hole then plug it, but tim's correct, buying a new one is crazy, i think they list for 300
