The front frame crossmembers and the such is completely different. The steering is mount in front of axle, on added crossmember. At least on these model trucks. I suppose if you found the right parts, something else could be used.
I had the same thoughts, til I actually saw a chassis and realized it wasn't a bolt on.

what about finding a 4x4 and bolting on my pannels and such on it. there is one down the street already set up, but the pannels are rotting off of it. What years will the 68 pannels bolt onto? Thanks

It can't be done....correctly anyway. It would be best to find a 1979 F250 chassis like I did and put your sheet metal on it. 460, 4 speed, power steering, power disc brakes. Old look with the new drive train. The cab and front end bolt right up. I haven't gotten to the bed yet, I'll work on that when I get to it. Here is a link. It can be done as I've done it on our chapter's project truck which is a '72 F250...but I wouldn't do it again as it's a major PITA and I'm not really completely happy with it. I'd much rather we had started with a highboy frame.
