I have a 94 7.3 IDI and the more I read the more I'm finding out that it has already been modified. I installed my new gauges tonight and went for a drive, it is 47 degrees outside, I ran it at wide open throttle up a long grade and my exhaust temp never ran over 900, my boost reached as high as 10 psi. The truck had no load except for its own weight. My question is 1. do I need to have a load on it pulling a long hill in the middle of summer to find out what my egt is? 2. Does the same apply to find out my max boost? 3. If I turn up my fuel some more do I have to turn up my boost to be able to use the extra fuel with out overhaeting my exhaust?
Then you will have to put more load on the truck before you see higher EGTs. You could turn up the fuel screw, but I would only recomend that if you have no smoke at full power right now. Boost can be pushed up a little to keep the tailpipe clean, but I wouldn't advice much more than 10 psi for constant, or 15 psi for brief spurts.
