I got back from a long trip over a mountain pass and just happened to look under the truck.
I noticed a transmission fluid leak. It turns out that the people who installed the trans weren't smart enough to notice that they overlapped the metal cooler lines. After 18k of driving one wore a hole in the other and was leaking.
So its off to Ford tomorrow to buy new lines. The question is, when I replace them, will the air in the line be a problem, or can I just top off the fluid and be ok?
Should mention 1992 crew cab 4X4 e4od trans.
Should also mention that I have just removed the radiator to send it out for repairs as the top tank is leaking. So, I'll have them clean out the tranny lines as well.

As soon as you get the new lines, just replace them. Once the truck is running, it will purge all air in the lines by itself. The cooler lines have pretty good pressure to them, so they rid themselves of air quite quickly.
My lines are leaking too. What size are they? 1/4"? 5/16"? I'd like to get them from somewhere other than the dealership. Transmission is the E4OD in a '92 crewcab 4x4 with the 7.3 diesel.
The lines are 5/16. You might want to look into replacing them with 3/8" or 6AN stainless hose. I'm working on upgrading mine, just havent had time to do it.
