What to do with a patch panel that has surface rust? I have used a disc sander on it but there is still some left behind, very light pit marks. I would like to use the patch because the fit is great. Dont know where it came from it was in a truck that i bought. So i do i get it out other than sand blasting? Then panel is a pass rear cab corner. Thanks RT
I think it would have to be realy thin, or you would be using a bad azz sand blaster before it would warp. I would just sand blast it and take it easy on it.
I was watching Power Block TV the other day and I think it was on Muscle Car, they used a bath solution of distilled water and baking soda and connected the part to a battery charger. It cleaned the part down to bare metal, looked interesting. Try looking on their web site.
Phosphoric acid (phospheric?) , Por 15 metal ready, ..

actually, that was "Washing Soda" probably, a little different than baking soda, but comes in the same looking box.
It's usually in the laundry section. Here's several links on the subject, the last one is best:
The bubbles are going strong as we speak, its been in there since 6:00 pm yesterday and the rust has turned black and falling off. I also hit it with a wire brush some. I took some pics and will post them soon.
