Fuse panel/GEM module
Fuse panel/GEM module
Does anyone know how to pull the fuse panel/ GEM module out of a 2002 F150 Supercrew? So far I've removed most of the dash covers in the area, and removed a handfull of screws. I can move them around some, but do you just have to get everything unplugged while it's still in place to get it out, or do I keep tearing dash parts off?
Thanks
Thanks
Yes, it's an F150 supercrew. I figured out how to get the fuse panel out, there are two 10mm bolts that hold two big plugs in the back, and then three plugs on the left side. Also two nuts on studs at the bottom and two bolts at the top. Take all that loose and it will slide right out. The module on the back has a sticker that says P/UP ESOP 4X4, a big C, and 3L34-AA. I am assuming that is the GEM module. I am also assuming that it has a GEM module, because my Ford garage has already charged me to replace it twice. Yes, I had a cracked windshield that I thought was resealed, but it was doing all the GEM tricks- not starting, not shutting off, radio and heater blower running with the key off, so they replaced the GEM twice. It's starting to do these again. It quits if the truck runs long enough with the heater running, but I wanted to see what was wrong. When I finally got it out tonight, I don't see anything wet or corroded or anything.
Is there a way to get in to the contacts in the fuse panel? It seems like the studs that hold the fuse panel in and the plugs bolt into are holding it together. Is there a way to get them out and check for corrosion, or is this a throw away?
And thanks for replying.

I believe I remember someone on here taking the fuse panel apart, but they didn't go into detail as how they did it.
I thought "supercrew" was related to "superduty". That's why I thought it was a f250. I did find the GEM when I looked up a f150, but they have a caution, that it's loaded with a program inside it, and if you get a new one, you have to retrieve the program from the old one and download it in the new one before it's installed. I guess the dealer has a gizmo that does this.
I looked and looked in both the f250 and the f150 manual, and I can't seem to find any info on the fuse panel.

The bolts that hold the fuse panel case together seem to be a big nut that fits into the plastic on the front side of the fuse panel with a stud that sticks out both ways. The front studs are the lower retainer bolts. The back ones seem to have female sleeves with heads on them that hold the case together, and allow the terminal plugs to be bolted on.
I'm going to try threading a bolt with a nut into the female sleeve, lock the nut to the flange and see if it will back out.
Thanks for the info Dave.

1994 4x4 and trans problems
have a 1994 f150 the 4wheel drive does not work.there is a red light on the 4x4 module that lights up when you push the white button what does this mean anyone know.there seems to be no power going to the transfercase motor either.also the trans goes crazy every now and again shifts so hard it will bark the tires 31 10.5s when it shifts into second.when driving at a steady speed sometimes it jumps out of gear and slams back in like doin a nuteual to drive drop the weird thing here is when the trans acts up disconect the battery for about 5 mins it all goes back to normal except the 4x4.any ideas we have nicknamed this truck sybil
You can pull error codes from the computer for the transmission. I would do that first. It may tell you your speed sensor is bad or something like that.
