GEM MODULE
GEM MODULE
Possible bad GEM mod. See Something electrical thread.
New one is $600 from dealer. Where can we have them rebuilt or buy rebuilt ones or used ones.
Once i get this mod out how do you tell if it is bad. Can you possibly clean it up if it is corroded?
Could be fuse panel problem??
HELP....Thanks guys.

Have you contacted AutoNation (previously Tousley Ford)? They are a dealer parts house but typically have the OEM parts at almost half what you'll find at your local dealer.
Link... AutoNation Ford White Bear Lake | Parts & Accessories
their price is $299 MODULE - MULTI FUNCTION (GEM) for FORD |F81Z-14B205-EE
Otherwise, you can find used GEM's at a junk yard, but make sure that you get the right part number for your year as there might be differences from one year to another.
1Aauto has a new one for $439 - 1999 Ford F350 Super Duty Truck GEM Module at 1A Auto.com
The part number I find is F81Z-14B205-EE
I don't know of a source for rebuilt units, and am equally doubtful as far as the potential for cleaning it. Every time I've seen someone refer to having to replace the unit, it is a costly pain. I believe that you're also looking at a potential Dealer re-programming activity that goes along with the GEM replacement, but that may only apply to the newer VSM replacements. Anyway, if it is required, the dealer programming is typically in the $125 range, IIRC.

Thank you very much Mr F250. Thats exactly what i needed.
I will have a chance to start working on it tomorrow.
I will start with battery cables, checking fuse panel, checking GEM module for possible water damage etc etc.
I want to try to find the problem hopefully not being the GEM.
If i find it is the gem i can get it at a much better price than the $600 dealership charge.
Thanks again Brother....
I will get back with the remedy for my problem.

Personally, I would connect with Kamstutz and take up his son's offer. That way, you would get a brand new unit and at the same time help out one of the Brothers instead of a dealership.
Hope what you find is not the GEM, though.

Wow, I totally stress myself out over a possible problem, $600 cost of module etc for no reason.
I started eliminating possible problems by 1st cleaning battery cables. They were dirty but not what i would say is real dirty.
Problems fixed, clean battery terminals, just at batteries.
All good now.
Thanks again for all the advice, I was lucky this time.
