remover the GEM and check for corrosion. it there is any, remove it and then reinstall. of course, reseal the windshield. here is a guide for removing the GEM
Question: How do I know if the panel ($220) and GEM ($500) need replaced?
Let them dry out and see if the problem goes away. If it does just fix the windshield leak. Don't worry about frying anything. If it was going to happen, it already would have.
before I get ahead of myself.... Do I need to download all the information from my existing GEM module to an NGS tester (like the link Etewald provided says)? Or are they just saying that IF i plan on replacing.
Will I somehow lose information if I take it out right now?
man o' man! I can not get the fuse box and GEM out.
From the link etewald gave me below...i assume the diagram is for a 99 Exp.? If so, are the bulkhead connectors (pic below) on the backside of the fuse box?
Any tips on getting it out would be greatly appreciated.
Get this. I just called the Auto Glass Center. They said that for 99-05 Expeditions... They will not do a reseal. They will only do a complete window replacement. They said it a problem with the black coating on the windshield that comes apart... Not the bond of window to frame....????
Gee, wouldn't it be unfortunate if a rock hit your windshield on the driver's side? Then you'd have to call your insurance company and go through the trouble of it being replaced for free.
