I think I will keep an eye on this thread. I am very interested in the possibility of a reusable 6637 filter. I like the intake tube as well looks very clean looking unlike the stock tube.

What I'm wondering is if I need to offer an addapted end on covers for this thing which will suck up inside the end of the element's end opening. It would be best from an air flow standpoint, for sure, but I wonder if the inner bag will simply blow back out when you jump off the throttle and all of the excess boost pushed out the filter.

I'm just thinking out loud, here, but I guess we could mock up a small stainless wire cylinder structure that would fit tightly up inside the "inside" region and hold the inner bag in pace during this back thrust of air. No doubt, though, the inner bag design modification would increase the cost of making the cover... it would for sure double the production time for each cover and require more fabric to boot.

I guess another option would simply be to have "sleeve" option for the cover where ther would not be any "inner" protection... just a sleeve with two open ends.

When yours comes in, Brandon, take a pic of what the inside opening are looks like. I would almost be willling to bet that it is tapered to a near "point" shape at the end closest to the filter mounting neck.

Nice job with the numbers.
When I first read the post I quoted, I said to myself "Where is Gene. He would know this off the top of his head". But then I remembered a conversion table I had and went for it. Actually it was pretty easy once I looked up how many cfm in 1 liter.

CFM for a 7.3L = .2555 X RPM / 2

1000 RPM = 127.75 CFM
2000 RPM = 255.50 CFM
3000 RPM = 383.25 CFM

At least that is what the math says.
That would be correct, on a naturally aspirated engine. Which is technically correct, because you did ask how much CFM the engine flows, and not the turbo. The stock turbo flows in the range of 700cfm if i am thinking correctly, it takes 700cfm into the inlet, however due to pressure it does not always flow 700cfm out. All air compressors flow less CFM at a higher psi. Once it is then compressed again thermally by the intercooler it goes into the engine which is then only accepting x cfm. Thats where pressure comes from.

I bought it because I go through 2 6637s per year. $78 worth of filters(inc. shipping) and I bought this for $99(inc. shipping) so in a little over a year I will be ahead of the game.

For whoever said that oil from filters would mess with your sensors, nope, dont think so, otherwise Ford would not have plumbed the factory CCV line into the intake pre turbo.

since its the same size as a 6637 you can run Petes cover as a prefilter for this one also.

Just so everyone is clear, I have no vested intrest in this filter other than I am having one shipped to me. I am in no way bashing the 6637, nor am i trying to convert you from the 6637. For me the math works. (I was planning on buying an AFE anyway to run with the new turbo). Diesel site has the cone AFE's for $73.
Brandon,

I would like to supply the oil analysis kits for your first two oil changes, that way we can share the results will everyone on this forum to see how the new system compares to the AFE, 6637 & AIS systems as far as filtration is concerned. I'll send you a PM to get your address. It will require an oil change since we want to start off fresh. If your not close to changing at the time of install for the new filter we should hold off the sampling untill after the first oil change with the new system.

Wouldn't this mean that the stock air filter can draw 700 cfm?

Theoretically, yep. Wonder why they failed so frequently? Nope. It has the surface area when clean but for how long?

Damn, just a few months after the switch to the AIS. I'll be watching this close. I have heard that AFE filters are excellent. I'm waiting to see if they come with the Pro Guard 7. I kinda miss the Darth Vader sounds from under the hood

I typed before I thought. I guess it stands to reason if the turbo draws 700 the filter would have to pass 700. Duh!
