I tend to think that the cliping of the wave form really occurs in the amplifier. I suspect that if a speaker is driven to the point where it mechanically clips the signal. It's being stressed. I'm guessing, however, I would not do it.
yes it does come from the amp, what i was trying to say, is if you send a clipped wave to and the thermal and physical limits of the sub are not exceeded will it hurt the sub?
because ive come across alot of people that are mis informed and think that it will hurt the sub. As i can tell you are not mis informed. Just tryin to help people understand what will and will not hurt there subs.
yes ive heard that argument about underpowering also. I wonder where people even get that idea from? turn down the volume, and the sub is being under powered.
I think it might be a good idea, to have a sticky thread of misc, audio myth's

LOL I could go on for days with myth's.
It's sad how a little don't know can have way more weight then common sense.
Another one I like is the kid who says he wants a sub that will take 5000 watts daily.
Really? 5K in power?
The amount of power draw for a short burts of that kind of power is enough to cripple most electrical systems let alone how much power to run it full tilt all day.
yea but there everywhere. Not afraid to say it, i used to be one of them. I had saved up alot of money and was going to buy a big effin stereo system. Then i started doin a lil research to make sure i wouldnt get jacked around. HA. Well after just a lil research i decided against the big effin stereo. But i still research all sorts of audio stuff. Yea i want a 5000 watt system now, but i also want a ford gt. Im gunna go ahead and keep wantin!
