Add wire to the alt, don't replace it. More is better. the grounds also need to be 1/0 or better.
I use 4G for speaker wire

alright, yea 500mcm is a pain to bend, heck its a pain to do anything with! 4 gauge as speaker wire, ouch, i use 2 gauge i believe to power my amp, could be mistaken its been awhile.
Alright so just add to the cables already there. and 1/0 min for the grounds too.
