In some engines the #8 is a different injector - a special 'Long Lead Anti-Cackle' Injector per Ford TSB's. (See XC3Z 9E527-AARM in these cases.) #1 - #7 injectors are always standard injectors. When the injectors are replaced, both fuel and oil leak into the combustion chamber. If these fluids are not evacuated, the engine could bend a rod (hydraulic lock) as it tries to compress fluid in the combustion chamber.. New - w/ Core Charge"

One site I saw said Exc. California My truck is a ca. truck any ideas???

EDIT:Correction!!! That was for an early 99 that it said Exc. Ca.
When customers complained about the noisey #8 injector it would be replaced with an LL (long lead) injector per the TSB to try to eliminate the cackle. If you had a LL injector in #8 it would have been marked LL instead of a code like AB or AD. It wasn't very successful because of the dead end fuel passage at the #8 cylinder. If they ever started putting those LL injectors in at the factory I just don't know. Don't worry about hydro-locking at this point, it would have done that already, like right after you changed the injector and tried to start. I don't have any ideas why you are still getting the 308 code. This is getting to be a BFM, big friggin mystery.

Son of a Mother!!!!!

Well the ***** has hit the fan!!!! Driving today the SES lgiht cleared itself when i stared the truck after leaving the bank... I drove three blocks and out of no where A loud clanking soud came from my engine. Threw it in neutral reved the motor real quik to find out if it was drivetrain or motor noise and it was defenitly motor noise. i am hoping it is either a rocker arm or maybe that injector broke... Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!!!

Broken flex plate?
If you you broke a rod, the motor would be windowed and it definately would not still be running.

Ya it didn't die, and it didn't drop oil pressure. And it didn't throw a code. The noise sounds to be more external then internal. It was very loud and almost hollow sounding.

Serp belt? I know, probably not, but i am hoping for the inexpensive things.

Actually the injector might have blown its tip. Lets hope not.
Like Dan said maybe a broke flex plate.

Ya my first thought was the belt... but I looked and it was still in tacked... Also the truck still moved under its own power after it started making the noise so I think that eliminates the flex plate. I had it towed to the local steelership. They are the only ones around here that work on diesels. Fortunately enough my buddy is a "service advisor" there and is going to keep me updated as much as possible. I told them they are not to fix anything untill I have had a chance to talk it over with some friends (i.e. you guys) They are pulling the valve cover in the morning and he will give me a call with what they find.

I will post as soon as I here from them dont worry... If its anything not major I will plan on having my buddy fix it over the weekend. hes a backyard mechanic. And has worked on everything Ive ever owned. He worked for a moblie diesel mech. company for like 5 years before he started driving a school bus. Anyways thanks for the help and positivive thinking.

Just shootin' into the dark here Nolan...but are you sure you don't have a fuel restriction or bad air leak? I've heard a loud "clank" from both of these situations.

My buddy called this morning, and he said the tech is thinking its a rocker arm... They are pulling the valve cover and going to give me a call.
