Trying to do a little research on the 65 F600 cab&chassis I purchased, looking for some web sites that may have pictures, difference in models, dimensions and specs......also where do you find parts for the 600s?
I notice most everyone has pickups but any help would be appreciated to help me learn about the truck I purchased. I am very annalically.
I have done all kinds of searches, Hemmings Motor News has been most fruitful.
Maybe my searches are wrong, everthing comes up for the P/ups but nothing on big trucks.
begining to wonder if I should go through with this purchase.
I know you can purchase a 64-72 master truck catalog on ebay which gives all the truck parts from B, F, N, NT, P, and T's. I did a quick glance at parts just to varify it. It'll come in CD format which will make life a bit easier to see what went where. I believe Green Sales would even carry the parts if you give them a part #. It's just a matter of available parts in stock. There are some parts like front fenders and grills that are completely different but everything else practically bolts on if memory serves me correctly.
The body on this truck is OK very little rust, one owner truck low milage. I am just worried about parts like brakes&drums, bearings, U-joints that kind of stuff. since it is a 600 everything is bigger. stuff that used just won't get. I want to use this truck to pull a camper locally for week-end trips.
Best source in the US of A for older BIG Ford truck parts: JOB LOT = joblotauto.com. / located in Queens, NY.
Get the 1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog on a CD from hipoparts.com / also sold on ebay.
EVERYTHING you need will be in that catalog.
airharley & I use the same one here on FTE.
If you need help figuring out how the catalog works, or need part number assistance, all you have to do is ask.
I doubt that Mac's Antique Auto Parts or any of the other FTE sponsors (listed on this page) will have much in the way of mechanical parts. Most are NOT the same as used on F100/350's.
Brake drums!
Ach du lieber...they're a royal pain in the a** to figure out...Ford used at least 20 different ones front & back!
What size are the shoes...14, 15 or 16 inch? How wide are they? How heavy is the front axle?
Gives me a headache just thinking of those **&(*& drums.
If they are original FoMoCo drums, they'll have Ford ID numbers on them, if not...
Hopefully when I go to pick-up the truck it will be in running condition, and will need nothing to get her home on the 4 hour trip. I just belive in be able to drive any thing I own at a drop of the hat. I will check into getting the books you have suggested.Any body eles that owns a 60s F600 let me know so I can call on you in the middle of the night with questions.
