Usually the computer will detect a missing EGR so you will need to ahve it reflashed. But, you didn't say what year 460 etc. A spare 460??
ANyway, you can remove EGRs and plut on a plate to block off the ports, but if you have an OBD II computer you almost surely will need to reflash the computer. An OBD I might be more forgiving. I think Ford went to OBD II in 95 but I don't know for sure.
Removing smog gear without thinking about the whole system can cause problems so make sure you know why you want to remove the EGR.
Take a gasket and use the outside dimension as a template to make an aluminum plate, I usually use a 5/16" piece, make the holes and cut and drill. If you have emission testing, I just remount the EGR on top of it and it still looks stock.
no we dont have emissions testing. i just want to do away with it. i have heard you get better hp and preformance.
You will never feel the difference while street driving. If you are a racer, your time slip might show a few hundreds difference but I doubt there would be anywhere near a tenth of a second difference. I've done it to several different engines, from 4 bangers thru my 460 and It was mainly to be rid of the clutter on top of the motor.
My 429 came out of a 70 tbird and it didn't have an egr valve on it. The intake didn't even have cross overs. My 73 tbird that I still have with a 460 had an egr originally. Probably was earlier for California models.??

EGR's started about the time leaded gas dies, so 1972 and on would have EGR valves.
