At just a little over 168k, they are the last for the miles I'll ever put on my truck sadly. Saturday March 1st I had a deer take care of my front end and insurance threw in the towel on her. A sad day in my world.
I bought her with 100,102 miles on August 29, 2003 for $2500. Insurance is paying out NADA retail value at $4175 with the option to buy back for $872. After owning her for over 4 1/2 years I regret to say I dont have the desire to fix her for one last time. But it sounds like I have at least 2 guys that want to buy her for $1500 from me sitting as is. I'm going to let one of them take her on home.

Reason: fixed picture alignment
1. All the work that I put into her REALLY recently including but not limited to: new radiator, new water pump, new timing set, new tires, new brakes/flushed entire system, new front springs/shocks, ignition coil.
Another one bites the dust. Too bad, because it sure was a clean and well-maintained vehicle. However, there are some things that you should take console in:
First, it sounds like there were no serious (human) injuries, and that is of course a good thing. It looks like the truck took a pretty good whack.
Second, it also sounds like you will be coming out of this on top financially, which doesn't happen all that often when a vehicle is totalled.
Third, it seems likely that your Ranger is going to wind up in the hands of someone who can make the best use of it.
True I wasn't physically injured, but everything going on got me a little depressed. That's why I cant bring myself to put the work into fixing it back up. Financially I'm getting more than lucky with this whole deal. One of the guys that I talked to actually had one of these trucks only in regular cab form and always wanted another in extended to fit his family but doesn't have the immediate cash to buy a good truck so he wants to build this one back up. I'd love to see her come back in true form for him and be useful. Better than letting it go to the scrapper and get picked it apart.
That is too bad about your Ranger. As was previously mentioned it is a good thing that you were not injured, and it is good that you will be making out financially on it. It is also cool that it will be going to a good home with someone who can use it. Still, I know the feeling of losing a good truck, and I feel your pain.
Sorry to hear, older vehicles are always worth more to you then they will be if in a total loss situation. My Ranger is sitting waiting to see if it can be salvaged as well, right after I put a brand new clutch in it. I had a car vs. deer with another vehicle not long ago too. So I feel your pain for sure.
The truck won against the deer, but seeing as how I opted to take out only the 1 of 6 deer I used the shoulder to avoid the rest, but the shoulder dropped out from under me and no sooner than I got on level ground from the road my drivers front corner found a telephone pole. So that's what did the majority of the damage.
No passengers luckily.
The I-beam is what got mangled, but the nut that holds the hub on the spindle stripped right out and that's how I lost the wheel.
No deer whistles, I've never seen them do any good. But the way I look at it is by the time they here the whistle if you're going highway speed it'd do you no good anyway. Plus they have to be carefully placed or they'll never make a sound over 50 or 60. My rents figured that out when they tried them out.
Ouch man, that sucks a lot. I got my first ranger in June of 2006... it was a 97 4x4 with the 4.0 extended cab, beautiful truck for the 3800 bucks we spent on it, it was sooo worth the 5500 the guy was asking for it. But unfortunately I only had the truck for a total of a month
I was rear ended on the highway (I was stopped for construction) by a moving van and it basically ripped the whole left side of my bed up to the cab. Luckily 3 people walked away from that truck.
That's a shame Benaghetto. I feel for ya man! I've come very close twice this year to hitting a deer, one was in town and the other within a mile of home, in a snow storm and my wife with. As many have already said, it could have been worse so count your blessings.
As much as I loved my truck I dont know if it'd feel right to get another. Besides, I've been looking at the big car dealer auction here in KC and since my dad's best friend owns a used car lot I can pick whatever. There are very few Rangers that go through there and they're most all regular cabs. However there's a hand full of (I know) S-10's setup like my truck that I'm considering since I cant find many cars to my liking. We'll see though. Something might change between now and wednesday when the auction.
Here's the short list of what I'm looking at and what it should go for at auction:
02 Camaro Z-28 (V8 t-tops 6-speed 46k) $8700
01 Cadillac Seville STS (V8 auto 66k) $6900
03 S-10 Crew Cab (4x4 auto 89k) $7500
00 Ranger extended cab (xl 3.0flex auto) $3800
If you couldnt tell I'm a little all over the place looking around at the moment.
