Yah I love trucks, I dont think I will ever own a car. Especially a new one. Old trucks are easy to work on and the mechanics on them are strait forward. All my friends dont understand why I like old out of date trucks, But then again they dont know what they are talking about.
Thanks ArcadeTom, I think i might just get one from the local junk yard. Theres a 78 or 79 F150 at the local yard that seems to have a good master cylinder with a booster on it. Would that fit my truck? Mine also has a booster on it and it looks very similar.
As far as swapping master cylinders from salvage yards..for no more money than a rebuilt one with a warranty is, I'd buy it from a parts house. If you are going to swap though, here is a tip:
Go to a part's house'swebsite (i.e. www.autozone.com) and look up the correct part number for your truck using their website. Usually you can see other years, etc that use the same part number or you can look up the same part of the truck you are considering getting the part from.
Another idea is to get a NPD catalog or BOTP catalog (both free from the Sponsors) and carry them with you to the junk yards. NPD seems to have more info and has been very useful as far as I am concerned.
I've done some looking around and partsamerica seems to be the cheepest with a new one being around $100. Im just trying to find something cheep but i also need it to be reliable, luckily my dad's got another C6 to put in the truck so I dont have to spend any money on that.
Well the truck stops great but it doesnt want to release all the way. Its a little better then it was but you still have to pull the petal back with your foot. Also when stopping it wants to do it in little increments and not a smooth motion.
It could be the master cylinder, but the not releasing sounds a lot like the proportioning valve under the master cylinder. If it doesn't want to release next time, push the little bypass button on the end of the prop valve and see if it releases then. If it does, you just found some or all of your problem.
