yea thats what i am looking at probally a ext cab 6.4 4x4 lift at some point in time maybe, mostly a daily driver and will be towing a enclosed sled tailer with 4 sleds in the winter
Well based on that info...IMO...go with the 3.73 gears. The towing...and mainly the lift (larger tires) are the reason here. However, if you were going to keep the SD all OEM stock...then the 3.55 would be the way to go.
For Job 3 '08s with the 6.4L the 3:55 gears are now standard. They are trying to help us with the fuel mileage which has been a major complaint with the new motor.
They did not lower the tow ratings. So apparently Ford thinks the motor still has plenty of torque up to it's rated tow capacity. Considering the 6.0 had 70 ft/lbs less torque and was/is a very capable tow vehicle, I would say they are right.
So, unless I was towing a large trailer at near the maximum weight rating, I think I would go with the 3:55's. What you propose to tow is childs play for that truck, so stick with the 3:55's and enjoy a little better fuel economy. You will have plenty of power.
