SF3 vs X3

What is the difference between the SF3 and the X3? I have seen units on ebay that have X3 on the programmer and others with SF3...........

SCT's website has both of them, but as fas as I can tell, they are exactly the same thing, except the SF3 is a "new product".................

Unless I'm badly fooled, the SF3 is the new "screw-the-custom-tuner-version" that all the dealer/tuners are so thrilled with. Thanks SCT. They wouldn't get off their butts and work on the 6.0/6.4 tuning for working on the ricers and hemis. Then they have time to put out something that gives more adjustability to the end-user (still not near as much as the custom tuners can change) but cuts the custom tuning dealer (the ones who were/are) the "talents" out of the equation.

Rumor has it that SCT is finally releasing some new tuning for the Fords but I'd personally check into the soon-to-be released Spartan flash tuning device that is currently stirring up the 6.4 world w/ 492hp/840lb-ft w/ stock intake and DPF delete exhaust (and that's just some early tunes!). Thats over a 90hp improvement over previous tunes available for the 6.4!

Better believe it will likely shake-up the 6.0 tuning-world as well. STAY TUNED

Matt keeps this up, I'll more then likely be broke long before the actual pump prices break me. I'm addicted to this stuff.

Soon, very soon. He's got his motor built and ready to run 2 different cam profiles to fine-tune the shop 6.0 truck. The SCT isn't capable of running the dual HPOPs and big ol' injectors properly so the Spartan tuner is a must. Its being tweaked now. No real time frame though as he's working on my X along side Jason's X and his shop 6.0 with nearly identical motors (well except Jason's has every little piece you can get made from some exotic metal and some crazy one-of stuff $$$... yet to come ) and now he's dealing w/ a flood of calls/emails/pm's about the 6.4 stuff...

To answer the original question before EVERYONE went south..

SF3 is a pre-programmed Tuner.. thats it..

X3 is a pre-programmed Tuner with Custom Tune Support...

You cannot upload Custom LL3 files from a programmer to the SF3, it's strictly for the "Dyno" proven tunes that SCT came up with.

Sorry for not clarifying earlier but Storm has it covered.

SCT chose to package a device nearly identical to the XCal3 that was not "custom tunable" but instead came w/ a canned but "dyno proven" set of 3 tunes. Cuts the custom-tuning dealer, the foundation of SCT's custom tuning sales, out of the food chain. Sorry about any confusion.

True..

Honestly I think its SCT's way of getting Automakers to allow and keep warranty by saying "here, look at these dyno statistics blah blah".. Sorta like Bully Dog did.. Theres quite a few Ford Dealers that will actually sell you a bully dog and keep your warranty regardless of what might get damaged. I think that is SCT's way of thinking.. Sorta.. Either way it does cut our opportunities for custom tuning. I know we don't carry them in the shop.
