3 on the tree conversion?!

What exactly do i need to convert a 3 on the tree to 3 on the floor?

It would help if you told us what kind of truck you are working on. Also which model of trans or even engine type.......

Easiest way is to swap the light-duty trans for a heavy-duty 3-sp, should be a drop-in and it's floor shift. They are on eBay and probably in the Classifieds here.

i do not want to replace the tranny. i would rather just do the shifter and a hole in the floor, yet i dont know what parts i need. thank you though it could possibly be an option

Well of what ive seen the original 3 speed is a "side Mount" (i could be wrong with the name) with all the shifting linkage on the side of the tranny, as oppose of a "top mount" you have the shifter sticing straight out the top of the tranny......I could be wrong but you may need a whole different 3 speed tranny.

Funny thing though, my parts truck has the 3 speed on the floor so the PO was able to convert it pretty easy.

Back in the day, Spark-o-matic used to sell floor shift conversions, a la Hurst, that operated the side shift trannies witha floor shifter that bolted to the case of the trans. Check the web for them, I'm sure they are still around. But they will likely have short shifters, not meant for a truck.

a few of my friends that are building old trucks/rods are converting floor shift manuals up to column mounted... give it a few months and your on the tree manual will be all the rage again!

i know its possible i was just curious about the fit kit to make the hurst 3 speed shifter work? thank you! ill check out those sites

I don't see why that would'nt work however it does say 63' and up... was there a difference between the 63 and 60 3 on the tree tranny that you know of? thanks
