You know those springs in the wiper arms? The ones that hold the wiper blades tight to the windshield? Mine are pretty wimpy. Called NAPA and they only sell the entire wiper arm assembly. Anyone want to point me in the right direction to just the springs themselves? Gotta be out there somewhere. And has to be a lot cheaper. This isn't a show truck. Just an old farm truck that I use to haul hay and feed. F-600. Sort of the walking wounded of the farm truck world. Thanks
Thanks. That's the thing I am trying to avoid: Buying the entire arms just to get the springs. Still thinking that if they make new arms they have to be gettng the springs for them somewhere. My wiper arms are in great condtion except for the springs.
Never seen them sold separately for any car/truck. If you could find them you'll probably pay $10 to ship them... I think you're going to have to bite the bullet, or scrounge around for some similar springs at the boneyard. I'd be leery of the LMC arms, you can be sure they are chinese, but even Trico may be nowadays.
Would a f100 arm work?
I pulled two of them off a 53 f100 sitting in a U-Pickit yard,
What would be the difference left to right?
Sounds like a job that get's your eye poked out removing just the spring,..Pm me ,I'll send you the whole arm and let YOU poke your eye out...LoL
If you have any automotive swap meets in your area there is almost always someone selling used wiper arms. Even if the wiper arm is not exactly the same as yours, chances are the springs are. I have swapped springs from one arm to another many times. Even some later model arms have springs you can use on the older arms. You could also check with your local hardware store. They have a selection of springs and perhaps one of those might work...
My Dad used to repair wiper arms for me all the time. He would some how remove the stainless cover to reveal the spring. Most of the time the spring would be broken and he would repair or replace. I have no idea what or how he did it, he was retired and had plenty of time to play with junk! I never had time so I dont even know how he did it. When I used to drive the small window as a daily driver he did both of those wipers and then when I did the marmon herrington f600 I was pressed for money so he did a pair for it too.
"Back in the day" the automotive aftermarket used to sell wiper arm springs seperately. IIRC, they came stuck into a piece of cardboard about 50 to a card. I can remember changing them when I was a kid. I've long exhausted the supply left over from my dad's Esso gas station and have no idea where you would get any but if you find an old parts inventory from a defunct gas station or parts store look for a card full of small stiff springs with one short hook and one long hook. Sorry, that's the best I can offer except to second GreatNorthWoods idea. As far as I can remember it was one size fits all. Good luck with your search.
