Hi I am new here I just recently purchased a 1992 Bronco 4X4 5.0 engine it has the mazda 5 speed in it. I am thinking of swaping it for a Automatic. The 5 speed as I was driving it we heard a pop and I lost all the gears except for 4th. Before you ask what I mean by lost is I pulled over and tried each gear the only gear it went into is 4th. 1st,2nd 3rd, 5th and reverse was gone I couldnt get it in any of them at all no grinding nothing if anyone has experiance this I am dumbfounded never heard or seen this before. But anyways the transfercase is still good is there any auto transmissions that will bolt on the transfercase or will I have to do trany and transfercase?? I have a 460 but kind of debating on the swap of motors because the 5.0 only has 143K on it. I plan to use a floorshifter if I go with the automatic.
O how do you post pics of your rigs??

In my opinion the overdrive drive AOD is a POS.........Yes it dose have over drive.......But It's really weak unless you spend a lot of money to upgrade it. It has way to many small parts that make it an overdrive. The C6 is much more durable and is easy to rebuild.
If you want to learn about the AOD here is a mustang site that is a bunch of serious muscle heads. They commonly use the AOD because a C6 normally wont fit a mustang. http://www.clickclickracing.com/forums/
Silverfox is a wizard with the 5.0 and the AOD

Its a rare ride with a manual trans . But you got to do what has to be done. I can get a rebuilt manual for way less than a auto rebuild. Get a zf (F250+ HD 5spd )will really be fun .
And dont forget ecu change If go e4od .Possible driveshaft changes.Etc etc.
Hey sell me the Bronco (Been looking for manual they get $$$$ here) .
Does the Mazda have any trans fluid in it? My brothers '90 did much the same thing and we found that it had suffered from the dreaded shrinking of the three rubber plugs on the top of the tranny, which had let all the fluid evaporate. A serious design flaw, as people rarely check the fluid levels on manual trannys. Rebuilt ones go for about $8oo or so. Probably your cheapest option. Just be sure to keep the fluid up!
Think I am going to stick with the 5-speed and find a HD 5 speed my brother is bugging me to stay with the 5 speed also and the best part of it all would be my wife dont know how to drive manual transmissions lol. And NO I dont plan to teach her how to drive a manual transmission. I paid $1500 for the rig and as stated earlier it only has 143k on the motor it starts right up. The body is in good condition planning to put 31X10.5X15s on it will get pics on here soon
ok I just had my 37th birthday and was talking to my dad, and he has a early 80's ford f250 sitting at the farm with a lift kit and 35inch tires on it it has all the running gear except the motor BUT there is no paperwork on the truck,
We was talking about the option we have and he offered me all the running gear ( I already have the 460 with a 4bbl on it) and all i have to do is go get the gear.
We are planning to tow the bronco over there in about 2 weeks and if I know my dad and brother over there then I will be driving a jacked up rig on the way back )))) luckly I only work 11 miles from home with the price of gas nowadays.
Will be reposting new pics after we are done "Playing" with the running gear.
O if I know my dad if something wont fit lmao he will weld it in place so it will
2 weeks til I get to do this ok but it will be fun.
