Transmission, Transfercase, Differentials - Fluids

Before I get flamed for starting a new thread, let me preface by saying that:

1: I did a search. ended up with more questions than answers

2: I bought a haynes manual, and I do not believe what I am reading...

so I am here to ask for confirmation.

I have a 1990 f250 4x4 with a 460ci engine and a 5 speed transmission

axle code is 39, non-posi 3.55:1 ratio

I'm in the process of doing complete fluid changes (just bought this truck), trying to tackle the front and rear differentials, transfercase, and transmission

forum search said to use 75w140 synthetic in the differentials... haynes manual says hypoid gear lubricant...

haynes manual says to use MERCON in both the transmission and transfercase... can anyone confirm this? I have a hard time believing that a manual transmission takes mercon...

so what should I put in my
differentials:
transmission:
transfercase:
???

I've got 75w90 redline synthetic, and dino 80w90 on the shelf, do I really need to go buy mercon?!?

Thank you so much!

We just went through this over in the Ranger section not too long ago. Check it out, lots of good info.

I've always put Mercon in my trannies and transfer cases on these trucks... what leaked out of my M5OD was red, so I ran with it...

so it sounds like i'll be running mercon V in the transmission and transfer case, and 75w90 synthetic in the differentials, being that they are both open diffs, non-posi.

Thanks so much for the input / advice! Guess I'll have to drain the 80w90 out've my transfer case! lol

I think someone around here said something about using not certain MERCON formulations with certain synchros.
