Injector Saga....over?

Well...after replacing 4 drivers side injectors and having a very rough idle and very poor performance until completely warm.....I have finally gotten it fixed. The bozos at the shop....after having me replace almost everything else finally decided to replace all 4 of the injectors they put in.

Guess what....cranks up and runs normal. HOWEVER...I now have a knock that is horrible...sounds like rod knock.

Do I still have (another) bad injector or is this knocking sound normal until I get all of the air etc....out of the system. Sounds horrible...but actually runs as good as ever.

Thought?

How long ago was the work performed? If it's been driven more than 50-100 miles it's probably not still air in the system. They may have nicked an injector o-ring on the installation.....

Just picked it up today straight from the shop...haven't driven 20 miles yet. Hopefully that is it......and not an nicked o-ring. Not sure what the problem was the FIRST time they replaced all 4 so hopefully they didn't screw one of these 4 up as well.....I'm runnign out of patience. Thanks for the help....hopefully the air will move out and I'll be good to go. Wanting to order BTS VB and DP Tuner as soon as I'm good to go.

Man, I am so happy for you, almost. I have been through some injector swaps here of late and that loud knock has never persisted more than about the first 30 seconds. I hope it smooths out quick.

No smoke that I can tell....although it is snowing it @zz off right now so probably not the best time to tell. I did just let it idle for about 20 minutes, hoping somehow I would magically get the air out and it start running without the knock.

Getting close to finishing the saga I hope...I guess at worst I'm at the point of identifying the knocker and replacing it.

Nope....generally you have to drive it, sometimes agressively drive it, to get all the air pushed out.

Scott....with 9,900 and 7,000 posts between you and Mike I think you guys have probably been around here awhile and I sure hope you are right. I'm sure tired of chasing this issue. I'll take it for a drive tomorrow if the roads are ok. Until then I'm going to pray to the Powerstroke gods that I'm almost there.

I agree with Scott, Drive it hard for about 20-30 miles and see if it straightens out. This can be done tomorrow.

BTW, we got about 4" on the ground here and still coming down hard. Gonna be a great day at work tomorrow.

Sounds like you're moving in the right direction. Of course aggressive driving and snowing it's @zz off don't really mix. If getting the air out doesn't fix the problem and it turns out to be an injector o-ring then it sounds like it's time to find a new shop to work on your truck.

I'm in full agreement about the shop. I'm just glad they finally changed the 4 injectors and noticed a change in the engine (instead of blaming the IDM, wiring shorts etc..etc..even after I had replaced all of that). I'm not taking it back to them regardless of what happens. And...if one of these injectors happens to be bad as well I'm goign to make sure all here know about it because they sell alot of them on ebay .....might as well let folks know.

Well fellas....I drove the truck today, about 110 total miles, getting on it when I could etc. That should have driven any air out but I still have the horrible knock. Sounds worst at idle and seems to disappear at high throttle, although maybe I just can't hear it there. My 'broomstick to the ear' test looks to be number 2 or 4. If you guys still think it sounds like a bad injector (or could be the injector connector isn't on too great)....I'm tempted to just buy a new allaint injector (tired of rebuilts) and try it in those 2 holes until I find the one.

Thoughts?
