I pump out the hpop each time i change always have, also run the bypass 2qrt filter. It does keep oil cleaner longer. The hpop is on the front of engine, under the power stroke cover.
It's the tall, rectangular brass colored deal right under the plastic cover (if you still have yours on) kind of between the fuel filter bowl and the belt.
The Allen screw you want is a little to the right of center of it and faces straight up. It's only about a 1/2 inch in diameter, if that so you'll need a really small tube to stick down there to get it out. You should have about a 1/2 inch to one inch of space between the top of the oil and the hole.
Hope this helps -- kind of hard to describe without a pic...
isnt the HPOP underneath the fuel filter bowl or am i wrong..i first thought it was the rectangular thing...but then where is the plug and fittings that i check for a leak...also is it easier to check for the leaks under the truck or under the hood
ok thanks....i have the diagram of the HPOP but where is the plug for the HPOP and is it reachable from the top of the engine?
I think we're talking two different things here. The plug on the HPOP *RESERVIOR* is on top easily accessible with little effort. There is a plug that can leak on the *HPOP* itself -- it's on the very back of it and is MUCH harder to get to.
yea thats what im tryin to get at here is the plug on the HPOP to see if thats where i have my leak from....how do i get to that and unscrew it once and put on some new orings?
No matter what oil I have run (I've used, Rotella 15W-40, Rotella 5W-40, Delo 400, Amsoil & Schaeffer's) my oil ussually darkens around 1K miles. I run the oilguard bypass as well. Whenever I dump it out of the pan, it is black. Observations on my truck and and 6 other PSD's (7.3 & 6.0) and 2 5.9L cummins I do the oil changes on myself. All of theses truck are either farm or construction vehicles. Oil analysis is the best way to see how things are holding up IMO.
I had mine leak before in the pic that Joe posted above, arrow pointing at the "plug". Good post Joe, went to add rep point but it sai you were not worthy until I spread it around LOL.....
so i have to pull out my HPOP to access that plug...i thought that u were able to access it while still in place...i duno...anyone who had to replace this o-ring take their HPOP out completly?....thanks for the help IZZY
