Gas pedal "jumps"?

Driving my truck.. (yes nice weather finally). I noticed something.. when I go over a bump.. the gas pedal moves a bit. No it's not my foot moving. Hard to describe. I suppose it's always done this. Is this because the truck has mechanical linkage and not a cable throttle linkage, or do my engine mounts need attention?

If you're speaking of the 1979, there is an accelerator cable, but I doubt its causing the "bump." Check the motor mounts, especially the left.

Also make sure the accelerator pedal bracket (it's part of the acc pedal assy) is bolted securely to the firewall.

btw: There are two different acc cables, one is used with cruise control, one without.

No cable, I have a mechanical pedal linkage, little rod going to the gas pedal, on a pivot point, going to a threaded rod that has a fitting for the carburetor throttle stud... I also have the "linkage style" brake booster setup, if that makes a difference.

You may have extra movement in the transmission or engine mounts.

Don't just check the engine block mounts.
Check the engine mount frame bracket for loose nuts/bolts.

That's what was the problem when I experienced this same thing.

I have seen several 79 460's with the rod linkage.

No cable on a 1979 F100/350 w/a 460? That's not what the parts catalog says.

D9TZ-9A758-C .. Accelerator Cable ~ Used with cruise control

D9TZ-9A758-B .. Accelerator Cable ~ Used without cruise control

No cable: A PO changed the carb linkage, prolly because the cable broke and he couldn't find a replacement.

btw: 460's have crossmember mounted engine perches aka stands or brackets, and another bolted to the engine (both sides).

The rubber engine mount fits between the two.

The 4 brackets are left or right specific...the two motor mounts are the same left and right.

Yeah, check that rear tranny mount. And the cab mounts. Cab may be moving a smidgeon.

NumberDummy, the truck was a 302 orignally

I have the proper stands and brackets. Prying on them with a large bar, the best I could move the engine was 1/4" or so.

I did however, change how the carb spring is attached to the gas pedal, using an OEM spring and not a dual spring.. I suspect that might be the problem. I'll double them up like I had them before, and see if that makes a difference.

I noticed that I too would feel a bump in the pedal going over speedbumps, that usually resulted in violent jerking of the truck (pesky HOT 460!) I solved that problem by putting my foot on the side of the trans hump and rocking my foot on the gas pedal instead of having my foot have direct action on the peddle. I think when I would hit the bump, I would subconciously push down on the gas pedal, my body was trying to somehow compensate for my bodies movement.
