I need a camcorder that is cheap,(reasonably) rugged and has good video quality. All I can find are hard drive and DVD camcorders, they wont work for 2 reasons,1 the terrain they will be in is too rough for a dvd to record right if at all and 2 the hard drive would be jarred to hard and crash. I'm trying to find one that records to SD,I found one that does and is durable but its basicly for the "youtube" generation. Sorry,Not for me. I want my video to look good as well as sound it. Korea is too important to look at on a crappy camera.
IF you want super quality you are going to have to go retro and get a hi8 or another
magnetic tape camera and then convert to digital if that's what you need!!
Really a steadi cam unit and the hard drive camera would be a good option and not
have the analog to digital conversion issues, It will give you a steady shot even if
you are running down a trail, on a bike etc. If you are riding in a car it won't be as
good since they are kind of tall but a van or truck or convertible would work easier!! http://www.steadicam.com/handheldSteadicamJR.html
You have come a long way. I remember a few months ago that you were pretty down about the whole Korea assignment. Good job. I had a great time over there. I didn't take any pics or anything which I regret.
I bought a jvc that takes the small vhs tapes it was not to much and is tough and works well we take it to team ropings and trail rides with our horses and it still works got it on e-bay
The minidv are a compromise that might work. They are digital to a small format tape,so you get both. They come in at a reasonable price and some have alot of extra features.
Get a hard disk camera with an SD slot. JVC's have them.
Thanks for reminding me. I'll have to check on the price of these now. Our old recorder broke a few years ago and we wanted a HD camera, but they were way too expensive when I last checked a year or so ago. Maybe prices have come down a bit?
Sorry for not being on,harddrive halfway crashed. Sounds like mechanical but acts like hardware. Anyway,I think I will need to go to DV for the durability. Thanks guys,i'll try to get back on soon.
