Air dam question

I know there has been alot of talk about the job 2 air dam and whether it affects mpg. I was wondering if anybody with a job 1 truck has put the air dam on there truck and noticed any change in mpg?

I installed a Job 2 airdam on my 2008 Job 1 6.4 L PSD today. The air dam box came with the job 2 airdam and mounted metal threaded clips to receive metal self centering bolts with built in washers. There was no instructions or any mounting bolts to insert into the metal clips. Fortunately I had about 8 of the necessary bolts on hand.

If you purchase the Job 2 airdam try the following: The Job 1 airdam is mounted with 5 push in bayonet plastic inserts and one 1" metal self centering bolt at each end of the air dam. Remove one of these metal self centering bolts at either end of the Job 1 airdam and take it to your Ford dealer when you pickup the new Job 2 airdam. You will need to purchase five more of them for a total of seven bolts. The bolt head takes a 5/16" or 8mm wrench. The plastic bayonet push pins are not used in the job 2 airdam so they are throw away. The job 2 airdam has seven threaded clips mounted on the airdam to receive the seven metal bolts. The mounting job took me 2 hours to install.

Now to drive the truck to see if I can pay for it with better fuel mileage.

Do yourselves a favor, take your hardware samples to your favorite bodyshop supply house. I got all the hardware I needed for less than 5 dollars. The Ford dealer wanted around 5 dollars for EACH bolt.

The lack of anyone posting a message extolling increased fuel mileage after installing a job #2 air dam leads me to believe that it was wasted money and no one wants to admit it. Hope I am wrong, but there should have been posts by now.

I am the guy that started this. I swapper a job 1 airdam for the job 2. My results are just over 1 mpg increase in mileage.

Thank you for posting back offshore1, that is a remarable gain for such a simple fix. I am looking to purchase a very similar set up as you have along with adding the 2in level kit(I am guessing you have the 3.73 and auto trans) Would you mind sharing your new avg mpgs. Thank you!

I've got the Job#2 air dam in my garage, but I'm wondering where to find the bolts besides the Ford parts counter. I don't know of body parts supply house around where I'm from.

Google "extruded u-nuts" and you'll find a bunch of places that sell them. There are also sellers on ebay that sell the u-nuts. Just make sure to buy the same size that is already on the outside corners.

I ordered the job #2 air dam for my truck but then I saw an identical truck to mine with the new longer air dam... I told the dealer to keep that crap. That thing is UUUUGGGGGLLLLLLYYYYYY!!! IMHO 1mpg isn't enough gain to make my truck look like Jay Leno.

Lowe's or Home Depot has them, also. Just take one of the bolts and speednuts off your small one (one on each end) for a sample.

I'll be heading that way to find some of those bolts. Thanks again.

I bought a job 2 and traded my air dam for a job1 before i traded in the job 1. I too think it's ugly. Besides, with a leveling kit an 35's I don't think it would hepl. I think it has to be closer to the ground. I wouldn't mind the ugliness if it made my truck fly.
