I am thowing the P0670 code. It says thats a short surcuit in the glow plug control module. Is this a serious thing? Does it need to be fixed right away or can I get by a couple weeks without it. How can I fix this? If it is something I can do I will do it. Where is the relay for it and how would I check that?
stout it is a simple fix. I just did mine not too long ago ( GPR ). Are you sure it is the GPR. I think P0670 is also other items as well. Have you truoble shot it down to the relay module?
P0670 indicates a fault in the GPCM system. It is limited to *only* the CA-spec F-trucks or the 2000-2005 Excursion, which had CA-spec glow plug controller module (GPCM) systems. As such, these trucks/Xs do *not* have a regular GP relay, thus the Guzzle link is not useful for this GP system.
P0670 is Glow Plug Control Module Control Line Failure. Look for an open or grounded circuit or shorted GPCM. It could also be the GPCM ($200 at NAPA).
P0671 through P0678 are failures in the glow plugs for cylinders 1 through 8, respectively.
P0683 is a failure in the diagnostic circuit for the GPCM. Historically, this has meant a bad GPCM.
I'd suggest you have either a bad electrical plug or wire to the GPCM. Remove and inspect the plugs to the GPCM for security, damage, wires. Suggest updating to "2000-2003 Electronic Glow Plug Control Module Harness Repair Kit", TSB 04-22-8, Ford part number 4C3Z-12B568-AA.
The GPCM is the finned unit in the background (the GP relay-looking thing in the foreground is for the IAH). The extra wiring you see going to the GPCM is the TSB repair kit above:
