I know this is not a ranger problem but you guys have helped me on my ranger so much I thought I would ask your help on this!!! On my wifes windstar when you syart it up sometimes it will just die but if you start it and keep it reved up alittle it will go and then be fine!! it happens when hot and when cold the idle goes from 500-850 up and down I replaced the throttle pos sensor no help I sprayed cleaner on manifold to lok for vac lek did not find any no codes show up either any ides am I over looking a sensor that could cause this???? thanks for any help in advance and please overlook the fact this is not a ranger I just need some help bad momma is not happy so life is tough thanks
Since the IAC (Idle Air Control) valve is easy to get at on the 3.8/4.2, take it off and see how gunked up it is with carbon. If it is dirty you can try cleaning it and seeing if that helps.
thanks for the response I went out and took idle valve off it was not real bad but did have a carbon buildup cleaned it with carb cleaner and put it back on will let it set for a while and try it if it fixes it do you think I should replace it they cost $80.00 but will buy one if needed thanks mike
