Since this is an information request and not a problem, I thought I should start a new thread rather than putting it on the problem thread.
Does anyone know (or where I can find the information) how the 5R55E transmission would or might respond to not having input from IAT, ECT, and MAF sensors? Thanks, Ed
Ed, as you know the PCM is responsible for the timing and feel of shifts on the 5R55E. It does this mainly based on "load" calculations. As such, shifting will be harsh without an MAF signal for the PCM to rely upon, since the MAF is the primary sensor for determining load.
One time I forgot to re-connect the MAF harness on my Ranger and drove around for a little while like that. The shifting was horrible, harsh and ill-timed. I was actually happy when it threw an MAF code because I knew right then and there what I had done. When I hooked the MAF back up, everything returned to normal.
Without those sensors working, overdrive and torque converter lockup may also be disabled. Since 2nd gear is actually 1st gear with overdrive, you might loose second gear and jump straight to third and forth.
