My 08 6.4 Finally came in and I took delivery today. I ordered the supplemental cab heater on my truck but i can't find it in the truck and I can't find a switch to turn it on/off. I looked in the owners manual and couldn't find anything on the supp heater system. Does anyone else have this option and can you tell me how this works ?? Thanks !!!!
Its automatic and equivalent to having an electric heater in the heating system. It certainly takes the chill out of the air and defrosts the windshield while the engine is cold. The computer controls it. As your truck engine heats up, it switches over to the radiator coolent to heat.
How do you know if you have that option? I didn't think mine did but it seems to warm up relatively quick for a diesel. After just two or three minutes is blowing, well, luke warm. But at least it's not COLD. So how can I tell if my 08 has it?
Yep, if you have it, nice and warm in 30 seconds at 10 degrees outside. As stated above the option does appear on the window sticker. Further, if you do not have the window sticker you can get a build sheet from FORD customer service. Both documents list my VIN with "Supplemental Air Heater", and the build sheet lists my build date as 10.22.2007. It takes several weeks to get the build sheet. I followed the process which was shown in this forum.
It works using the transmission fluid. The transmission heats up way faster than the engine does. That is the fluid that is heating your truck while the engine warms up. There are no operator controls.
Where did you get that? Its an electric grid heater..

Never heard of that.. is this an option for ALASKA? So the transmission fluild warms the coolant to warm the cab... Doesn't sound logical.
If you have it you will know. My truck temp is still cold and my cab is nice and toasty. I drive about 10 mins to work each morning. I do live in florida so I do not use it that often.
The heated seats work great too but I wish there was a low setting. I have to turn it off after about 5 mins.
The supplemental heater is one of the options when purchasing the vehicle. It is electrical and can only be purchased with the heavy duty alternator option (200 amp instead of 135 amp I think) it blows warm air in about 30 seconds instead of several minutes. If you have one there will be an auxillary large wire running from the passenger side battery with a built in 150 amp fusible link inline.
The Ford advertisement says that it increases up to 18 degrees F the temperature of the heater. So if its 10 degrees out, it will blow 28 degrees - not toasty warm. And since it says 'up to' I assume they mean 18 degrees at the lowest fan setting, with less at higher settings.
I don't know about everyone else, but when it was 30 degrees out within 30 seconds the heater is blowing warm air (would guess at least 80) and is way better than my 7.3 diesel that took at least 5 minutes to blow that warm. I guess I could put a thermometer in my vent to tell you for sure. Well worth the extra $325 for a $50,000 dollar truck, $250 for the heater option and $75 for the heavy duty alternator.
