Supplemental cab heater???

I see when ordering a new 6.7 truck they offer an option for a supplemental cab heater.

Anyone know more about this? I'd love to have something similar in my 7.3. Gets cold in Alaska and my truck doesn't start to put out heat until the oil temp reaches 80*.

Plugging my block heater in for at least a few hours gives me heat immediately on start up (20-30 degree weather). Does it not do that in colder weather?

I've heard from people with the 6.7 that it can be half an hour of driving or more before they get heat and that's why Ford offers the rapid heater. My understanding is that it's just an electrical heating element in the duct work.

I had a Ranger with a leaking heater core that I bypassed so I picked up a 12v heater from a truck stop but that barely helped.

The OTR truckers heat their oil pan in the winter... you might consider that.

I had a "supplemental" heater in a van I once owned - it was just another heater in the back with coolant plumbed to it... which doesn't meet your goal.

My Father In-law has a 2012 F-350 that has the supplemental heater. I believe it is an electric heating element that provides cab heat. Once the coolant warms up, the electric element shuts down. It works really well and you can feel the heat right away.

Water Heating - Eberspächer

You could look into something like this. Volvo uses these on the machines as an option for cold weather. They preheat the engine and cab. They come with a programmable timer so you can set it to turn on at the same time everyday and warm the truck up before you get to it. You can also run it while the engine is running to help keep it warm.

For the machine that go to Siberia and see -50°C temperatures, they put two in to help keep things warm.

I bet that thing is cheap....

What about a diesel fired furncae like the 7.3 buses. I don't know how much room they take up, but my buddy has one on his tailgate bus and it has a 7 day timer and can warm the whole bus without the engine starting.
