i was flipping through 1 of my diesel mags and saw an ad with a listing for a thing called the Fitch fuel catalyst its supposed to improve fuel mileage and power.... any1 heard of it? if so does it really do wat its said to?
thx
keith
I don't know if I can mention the name, but a very popular diesel magazine tested the Fitch catalyst and DID find an improvement in mileage on their old Dodge dually Cummins. My 2 cents
they did a thing on it on the power block for gassers and suposably they got beter millage and power with it and lower octane fule but these are the same people that tell you a cold air intake on a honda will add 5 horses and a header adds 14 when every thing I've seen dyno or running my old stock acura against the exact same one with thouse mods says other wise. and both the tv show and mag got add money from fitch. now if any of you has used it and say it works I would belive it but I'm not taking the word of some one who is paid to promote it.
i call snake oil on that stuff. i think it's likely abotu as effective as those steel tornado inserts for your intake that supposedly inprove fuel mix and such. people are always after a bottle fix, another thing i hate is the pour in leak fix or the crack block fix in a bottle. should just fix your engine, not make it worse later.
Saw an add for a knock off of the tornado offerring 50% more power for my acura when i had it. I would love to meet some one who bought that I got a brige I would love to sell.

Gotta be carefull with those knock off tornados, they'll lift your heads clean off!! Only go with the original rip-off to play it safe.
I have seen some research on fuel catalists, and there might be something to that. Heavy container ships have started using it, or at least looking into it. When you butn that much fuel even 1/2% better efficiency can really add up.
I am thinking about the fitch, summit carries it for about $300 for my 7.3L PSD. They advertize 20% better MPG. Even a 10 - 15% gain would be worth while. I would really like to see somebody else have it first but somebody has to be first.
If this does what it says it will do you would think a reputable outfit would do some serious tests and publish the findings. I figure at 20% greater efficeincy it would save about $26 dollars a fill up with diesel being near $4/gallon. It would take about a dozen fill ups (7,000 miles) to pay for itself.
Another thought...I can not help to be cynical about any and all of these products that claim they will improve the fuel milage.
I think as the prices of fuel continue up there will be many thieves, carpet baggers, and snake oil salesmen who will try to decieve the unwary. I am not one to pass judgement on people but these people from Fitch, if they want to be taken seriously, need to have there product proven. They are gulity of being shysters until they prove themselves innocent. Perhaps if they gave a 100% cash back after 1/year if the customer is not satisfied.
most modern engine do a real good job of burtning up the fuel and making good use of the energy. if any of this stuff added anywhere near as much power and efffieciency then i dought cars would be able to pass emmisions without it. oregon and callifornia are real strict on emmisions. if there was much more to be gotten out of the fuel and internal combustion engine i think we would have it. and yes there are engine that are more efficient and use less fuel but they tend to be much smaller and have a lot less power.
Better emmisions does not equalte to better milage and better milage does not neccessarily equal to better emmissions. Current emmisions regulations reduce, in some cases 30%, fuel effeciency to get better numbers out the tailpipe. We have to burn more fuel to drive less miles.
Diesels are a prime example. Remove much of there emmision requirments, open them up with more air both in and out what you end up with is not only better fuel effeciency but a vehicle that combusts its fuel better...cleaner.
Emmisions is a numbers game. People love numbers. Politicians love numbers. They look at quanity not quality.
The ULSD is another example of better numbers at the tailpipe but overall less effeciency and more fuel burned in a less effecient process. The real time numbers from the tailpipe look good but the average emmisions per mile driven/gallons burned is worse.
