C6 shift kit install

Has anyone on here actually done this themselves? I am looking to put one in my son's truck but would rather do it myself if it isn't a complete nightmare. I do have plenty of mechanical experience just none with transmissions other than changing them. Any special tools needed for this? How long does it take? Any info someone who has done it or knows where there is a site that walks you through it would be great. Thanks for any help that is provided.

It isn't rocket science.

The worst part is dropping the pan.

There are various bolt lengths so pay attention.
A digital camera is worth it's weight in gold.
This is one method for keeping stuff separated.

They are not bad. The biggest thing you need to look for when taking the valve body apart it don't loose the check ***** and look to see where they go. Aside from that it is pretty straight forward with what the kit will tell you. I've installed shift kits before I started working at a transmission shop, they aren't hard.

B&M makes a shift kit and a Transpak kit. Which would be easier? Do the ***** just fall out when you take it apart or am I going to have a chance to really study it and make sure I can put all of them back where they go? Thanks again for the info.

First I would stay away from B&M.

Nothing is going to leap out and get you.

There a few small screws on the upper portion of the valve body that should be removed first.

Again, pay attention to the length.

Now flop it over and remove the remainder.
Separate the halves.

The should be a ball on top on a sping and a flat valve on top of another spring plus one loose ball.

The separator plate on the lower portion can be removed and there may or may not be one or more ***** in there.

Save the old gasket if possible to match it up against the new one.

A Transgo -2 is the best I have seen for a C6.
