To do what?

How often do you need to unbolt your motor mounts and lift your engine up to work on something?

Those are nice when doing clutch or tranny work on a FWD car. I have also used them when changing motor mounts on trucks.

I have one of those with a crank at one end "to allow balancing the powertrain on the engine crane".

Honestly, I don't use it very much as I have a large hook on my engine crane therefore I can loop more than two chains - by using three or four chains I can adjust the lengths appropriately to get a specific angle when pulling or installing, and for me that works just fine.

No Frederic, This is more like a gantry that sets just inside the hood recess on the fenders at either side of the engine bay. You can 'hold' the engine up off the crossmember and remove the motor mounts, ect.. while the engine "levitates"

At work we have an OTC one and an ATD one. I've never personally used the OTC, but the ATD works well. I would recommend the ATD one over the northern tool one just for the fact that the ATD one has more adjustments to it. It appears that the northern tool one is limited to where you can hook the motor. Its model number is ATD-7477

Ooooooh, okay. I only glanced at the picture and immediately imagined it attaching to a crane.

We use a very basic one on FWD cars, and it beats working around a crane or holding up an engine with a floor jack.

"Well, to change the timing belt in a LOT of foreign cars for one....."

Or remove the crossmember, or pull the transmission...

You can just use a floor jack under the oil pan for that job, bet you already got one of those.

I guess I haven't enough different timing belts to where a lift was a necessity much less an engine support. I own a support but never used it for a belt. In a pinch I found a 4X4, a chain and a small floor jack worked good to support an engine and lift it.

I've done 2 fwd transmissions, and helped with a 3rd clutch replacement (1 escort 2 saturns)

Both were a PIA, but we supported the engine with a 2x4 across the fenders with a pair of ratchet straps holding the engine up...

I dont see a reason for that support, even on the saturns plastic fenders it didnt scratch anything either time... No problem on the scort either.

Waste of money imho, but whatever, it's your money
