AC not blowing cold. the compressor is not coming on either. Is there a relay or a fuse that works the compressor or am i screwed?

Cecil,

this time of year you could simply employ 2-60 air conditioning...

Open 2 windows and go 60!

Seriously...do you have the auto temp control in your Ex?

Turn on the defrost to see if the A/C compressor kicks in...the defrost uses the A/C to minimize moisture in the cabin...

What temp is it where you are at?...it got up to 45 here today...BUT it is going to be 25 tomorrow!!!

I'm not thinking about A/C yet!

joe.

o.k. first what are you're static pressures ???????????? these trucks have a common problem with there low pressure cycling switch. it is adjustable but first you need static pressure incase the refigerant has leeked out. I it is low on refrigerant do go and buy blue tec or any other hydro caron based refrigerant there not ase sertified and they are explosive , they have the same basic properties as propane and they refigerant leam mat be in you're evaperator core making you're truck a bomb. but you cannot diagnose our repair most a/c issues with out gauges. however you can diagnose out the electrical portion by turning you're a/c on and jumping the low pressure switch. look on the large a/c line (low pressure line) close to the fire wall and you will find a two pin grey connector with a fuse jumper wire in stalled you're a/c compressor should click on if it does you're not fixed and not doing you're self any favor by ;eaving it jumped. As the refrigerant carries the oil used to lube the compressor and you wil destroy the compressor as well as spread debris from the exploding compressor through the rest of you're a/c system plugging the orifice tube as well as the evaporator core and condensor if you have any questions please fell free to email me dirrect at robnoxiousauto@hotmail.com

I suggest you do a search on FTE for "compressor clutch air gap".

They intermittently don't pull in when the wear gets to .050". Ask me how I know....

Fortunately, there's a pretty-quick fix for it, if that's his problem. See this thread:

Or adjust the shims to get the proper air gap.

The weakness on mine was just caused simply by the air gap being too wide. I fixed mine twenty months ago, and it went through two summers here in SoCal (where it gets a real workout) and worked as recently as this afternoon.

I realize there are wear limits, and someday the clutch will need a complete replacement, but until then, so far, so good. This technique has fixed a number of problems with members' clutches. That's not to say that coils don't short.

How do you determine the coil has shorted, DC resistance? What's the resistance of a good coil supposed to be? That would tell us when it's time to swap coils.

When you replace the coil, do you adjust the air gap, too, or just replace the entire clutch assembly?
