is it possible to hook the 10k on a three position switch? to inside the cab? would that create to much resistance? it gets cold here in mich. and i havent done the 10k yet just worried about cold starts.
Short runs on wires are not necessary, very good connections are. 100 feet of 20 guage wire only measures .. maybe 0.5 ohms so in the scheme of things with the 10K mod that is really nothing.
tbeggs you were saying not a in line method. are you talking about a two position switch? would the bypass method be a 3 position switch? also how long do i have to be on this site before i can pm some one?
what would this mod do for my truck performance wise? Already have 4" turbo back mbrp,Afe intake and EDGE Evolution. Sounds like a quick easy way to do upgrade just wondering what will come out of it.
There are two methods to do a 10k mod on the ICP sensor. One is to jumper between two wires, that is the bypass method. There is a inline method of adding the resistance where you splice into one wire on the ICP sensor.
Being able to add a switch for on/off or other resistance levels can only be done in the bypass method otherwise a switch will have a momentray open in the circuit which will cause problems in the inline method.
Just did mine today but went with 12K .. why, because I'm cheap and that is what I had. I have no mods yet except FPR shim.
On startup had about 100 RMP increase, cold, but lasted only a few seconds. Big improvement was low end throdle response, more like a gasser .. not quite as cautious to jump out in traffic as before. When engine was cold and coasting towards stop intersection engine kind-of sounded different, maybe a little huffing thing. Once warmed up that went away.
I have cold start issues with this mod and with some help tried some switches (I am talking the in line way) what works for me is a 10k potentiometer I can turn it off and set it to where I like without setting the cel
Ok, I gotta ask this question now because of some problems others have had.
I read that it is ok to unplug/disconnect the ICP (which sets the CEL) and run the engine/drive the truck. This sounds like it creates an "open" circuit that is much longer than momentary. Reconnecting the ICP clears the CEL (right?).
If unplugging the ICP and driving the truck is ok, why is wiring the 10K inline with a switch not ok? Again, we're talking about a momentary open condition that sets a CEL, but wouldn't the CEL clear when the ignition is turned off?
Because unplugging the ICP is done when the truck is not running. If you switch it or unplug it with the truck running it will quit and you will have to restart it.
The computer "PCM" looks at the sensors thousands of times per second. Just flipping a switch makes a quick disconnect / connect, but the computer will catch that open state on the switch and throw a CEL.
