I bought a 97 F250 w/ the 7.3, without a transmission, and bought a Reman, and installed it. After hunting down all the small parts that weren't included with the truck it started and ran fine. A couple of days after driving it around the O/D light started flashing, and the trans went into safe mode. Since then I've tried to draw DTC's from the truck (Key on Engine off), but got nothing. Am I doing this wrong? Is there something special I need to do to find out what the hell is up, or do I need to just pull out the multimeter and go componenet to component/wire to wire?
I'm using the actron CP9175 scanner. It comes back with a pass everytime, but there's another twist to the story below.
SOME HISTORY:
I had this problem about a week ago and pulled the pigtail connector off and cleaned it under the truck. Fixed it and it ran fine. It's been 300 miles, and I parked it. Woke up the next morning (friday) and the trans was in safe mode. This morning I pulled off the electrical pigtail for the connector for the solinoids, and cleaned it out with some electrical cleaner (had sand a dirt in it) I put it back on the truck, and no flashing O/D light. Obviously my unplugging the Batt's reset it, but I took it down the road, and it hasn't some on since.
My gut tells me that the connector has an intermitten short, but the scanner deal still has me stumped.
Yeah, she's been dripping out of the front pump some too. I'm hoping it was because of the safemode going to max pressure. I'll have to fix it after I figure out the electronic malfunction.
It was dry when I pulled the plug out maybe I'll put a q-tip in it. I've been driving it all day, and no O/D light, so I'm looking at that pigtail right now. Call me optimistic, but that's what I'm leaning towards.
yea every once in a while for the past few months at higher rpms it would slip and then BANG and i mean BANG into gear. like rear tires off the ground bad. so anytime it slipped i just let off and it was fine. i assume that is some saftey valve increasing pressure to keep from burning out the rest of the trans? but man, it felt like i was gonna break a driveshaft. it was bad.
Yeah, she's been fine today after cleaning the plug. I'm going to drive it all week to work and see what she does. I got the converter with the trans from the same place.
