i have a question about an ip. if the pump was turned up too much by the previous owner could it cause the engine to lack in power? my truck is horrible on fuel and when your going up an incline it pours the smoke out and has a constant trail of smoke out the exhaust at idle. i just dont think this truck should be burning $30.00 worth of diesel on a 40 mile round trip . what do you guys think?

Has the timing been changed since the new injectors?
yes the timing was messed with when i did a top end gasket change and ive played with it in both directions and it never once effected the fuel and smoke issue.
it has a constant trail at idle and if your going up hill it will smoke alot, but as for as flat ground you realy dont see alot of smoke. i was just thinking about something i wonder if the po put the wrong ip on it, because the pump has the external fuel screw on it and i dont think my truck came from the factory with that ip. isnt that a ip for a turbo?
The fule srew is still under the litle trianle plate on the turo ip. Is there any numbers on the IP? Also it sounds like you may have some leaky injectors is there any fule in your oil? The injectors can go out real quick if you dont get all the carbon off the sealing surface.
no fuel in the oil, and the heads were cleaned up real good when i did the topend gasket set along with the injectors. yes i know the fuel screw is under the triangle plate im talking about the one just behind the advance cover and by the injector lines.
I may be wrong, but I don't think any of the DB2 injector pumps had an external fuel screw. I have heard of a adjustable fuel curve adjustment that was external on some later pumps, but that only affects the fuel delivery curve, not max fuel flow/pressure.
