So I searched around but didn't find anyone who had talked about this. Did anyone else get the oil change plan from Ford? Out here in Colorado it is only valid at the GO Cars & Trucks dealership network, but they are everywhere. Perhaps it's just a CO thing. Anyway I am starting to think that I would rather do it myself. This is my first diesel but I am very knowledgable about cars and trucks. I was just concerned about anything strange and difficult about doing oil changes on our 08's. I have to look to get the specifics but it was around $800 for the plan. That was for oil changes every 5k miles up to 70k. Think it's worth it? I trust myself more than the guys at Ford. But again I am concerned about the special needs of our 6.4's.
The dealer changed mine for free the first time at 2K miles- I changed it myself before winter with the new Mobil One Delvac 5-40 synthetic for easier starting- takes a lot but was very easy to do as was the filter change. If I were you I'd do it yourself then you know it's done right...

There's no such thing as an oil change plan from Ford. Dealers do promotions like this all the time, but Ford does not. You need to understand that dealers are franchisees of Ford, they are not part of Ford. They are all independant businesses.
First question is has Mobil come out with a CJ-4 rating on the 5w/40 yet? Thought it was (aaaaaa Ch plus or something like that) Next putting in the synthetic at 2000 miles isn't that too soon? I would have thought at 10k miles? But with several oil changes before then? Or did I read that wrong ?
Oil change at a dealer is about $90
So figure 14 oil Changes at the dealer would normally be $1260
I can do an oil change for about $50-$55
or $700-770 for 14.
But I have to buy the oil and filter, then dispose of the oil and take about 15 min. to do each change. If you buy the plan and oil goes up, the dealer eats the extra cost. So I would say for $800 it is worth it.
the price is actually pretty good. about what you'll spend to do it yourself. i calculated the numbers you gave, and it comes to about $57 per change. so, if you don't like getting your hands dirty, disposing of used oil, and don't mind having some 16 year old change your oil, then go for it. i like to work on my vehicle myself. that way i know exactly what was done and what was used.

I'm the same way. I have always done all the maintanence on my trucks all the way up to a complete engine build. But it is just so much easier to have someone else do it. The oil is a big factor. I have a 5 gallon bucket that I use when I change the oil in my fiance's truck and my other truck. But 15 quarts is alot to dispose of. Just kind of a PITA. I think I will stick with it. The only downside for me is having to go 30 miles to get an oil change. Oh well.
The price is great as long as you aren't sitting around the dealership for 2 hours every time. I bought a similar one years ago that cost me $35 each for a 6.0 diesel which was a great deal but I never got out in less than an hour even with an apointment not to mention the sales people always tried to sell me something else.
Wait for the coupons. I get the oil changed at the dealer for $59.00. They do the oil, filter and lube and top off the fluids. They do the multipoint inspection and it's still under warranty so if they find anything wrong they fix it for free.
When you go to sell it the new buyer can look up all the maintenance on the vehicle.
