help with motor ID

Is there a number on the block that will identify the motor? 81 ford that used to be a 6 banger 3 on the tree is now a V8 w/ automatic trans, the guy which I received it from said it's a 69 429 but doesn't look like a big block and the #"s on the manifold have the fire order of a 351. The water pump sticks out from the block if that helps any. Any help would be apprieated, thanks

help with motor ID

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-May-02 AT 04:41 PM (EST)]How many valve cover bolts on each valve cover,5 or 8 ?

Down near and behind the starter on the block are casting numbers.
Look for C9VE-B and another number that
might look like this * 9L25 *

Check the heads near the sparkplugs for a number like this
C9VE-A

The intake has a number too.
Does the thermostat housing attach to the Intake or the front of the Block ?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-May-02 AT 10:32 PM (EST)]Thanks Dennis, there are 6 bolts on the valve covers and the thermostat housing is on the left front corner of the intake manifold. Will look for numbers tomorrow, it's dark out. Thanks
