Lower it, add air dam & put on tall, skinny, hard tires on it. Install the lowest number (3.08?) rear end ratio. Switch to all synthetic, low viscosity, lubricants. Drive like a Granny.

Wonder if any of the 'chips' offer enhanced economy modes that work? Presumably by lowering shift points & further limiting maximum revs you could squeeze out a little MPG from these motors that provide most of their torque at low RPM.

Good friends would tell you not to sink a small fortune, you don't have, into a 10+ YO pickup, for vain & nebulous reasons that you "dont realy know" during these difficult economic times. I suggest you "start" with a savings account so as to be prepared for the day you "realy know" what you need.
