well, you could put a locker in the rearend and put some mud tires in the back, im sure it would be a decent off roader with that set up, it would look pretty redneck.

fabtech makes a 6" 2wd suspension lift for around 6 or 700 bucks, or you could do a body lift for about 70 bucks, and get some tire clearence.

My buddies 2wd T100 with an ARB airlocker could pretty much go anywhere a stock 4x4 could no question.

If it's just for looks, I have seen 2wd late model Chevys with 44s on em. I think since they use the same suspension/crossmembers as a 4x4, the kits are pretty much a direct crossover. I think they look silly that high with no front axle and just a bunch of empty space up front.

I personally wouldn't go higher then 4" with 33s on a 2wd. That's me. That way it has the attitude, and still keeps most people guessing.

A little lift and some meats = owner's personal attitude, cool custom rig
A lot of lift= lame-o poser mobile

Those TTB arms look pretty wimpy without a pumpkin there...

I've heard comments from people who suggest lifting a 2wd truck is silly. It is more common to off-road a 4wd truck rather than a 2wd truck, which is why people used to lift trucks - more clearance and bigger tires. But, the "lifted" look is liked by many even if their truck never sees rocks or mud, or even rain. Nothing wrong with lifting a 2wd truck. Or lowering it. It all fits under the "whatever floats your boat" concept.

Hey Rebel_Cowgirl,

I too have a 96 F-150 2wd, and have been researching the whole 2wd lifting thing for a little while. I'm planning to put a 6" suspension lift on my truck very soon. Any lift kit for your model year that doesn't come with extended radius arms will work on a 2wd (even if it says it's for 4wd). Some kits also come specifically as 2wd (Skyjacker makes one, Rough Country makes one, and Tuff Country makes one!). I will probably be getting a Superlift 6" lift, as I finally found a retail location near me that has them. If I lived in the US, I would have already bought a 6" Tuff Country lift off J.C. Whitney by now

If you need more info, I can help There is an excellent full detailed how-to on how to install a 2wd lift on a 92-96 F-150 located on "the other big ford truck forum" website.

Lifted 2wd is fine. I agree, if you're planning to go off road with it, you'll be wanting a limited slip rear or locker. Agressive treads will help, so will keeping enough weight in the back. (my father had an early '70s 2wd C20, with snow chains and a load of firewood in the back, he could drive right up a snow covered hill that an empty 4x4 truck without chains took many attempts before conquering). It's all about adapting what you've got to suit your needs.

From: Destin/Ft. Walton Beach,
Trust me. There's nothing wrong with a lifted 2wd, just like there's nothing wrong with one that's lowered. Whatever it takes to make your truck all yours.
