Sorry for the lame question but I can't make this link work, i'm just trying to confirm that the gcwr for a 97 f-sd with a psd and 5.13s is 26000#. I've been searching for 30 minutes and gave up. this link doesn't seem to work:
if it is a powerstroke then it is 21,000. if it is a 7.5l (460) then it is 26,000. if you go to www.fleet.ford.com you can download the manual. here is the link for the manual
thanks elmo but here's a wrinkle. I recall that another psd truck I owned had a separate flyer ( in the glovebox documents with the general owner's manual) specifically for the powerstroke engine and that it had its own specifications. If you look at the manual you found me online, page 191 in the towing spec section it lists the engine vins possible and for diesel all it has is the M designation of a non-turbo 7.3 diesel and that what the towing capacity charts later ie that on pg 205 referenced. maybe the rating for the psd is the same for a non-turbo but i'm not sure. if it is, i guess i'm confused as to why. also why would the psd (or the non-turbo 7.3) be rated 5-6000 pounds under that of the 460 engine. btw i haven't found the powerstroke manual anywhere online, just the warranty supplements etc. thanks for the help
in 1997 they were all powerstrokes (turbo). they did not have a non turbo desiel. the page you are looking for is on 196 for an standard trans, 205 for an auto. right from ford. yes you get a diff book for the powerstroke that tells what is differant about it. it is listed in the table 1997 f-450 superduty w/ 7.3L 22,000lbs. i don't know why the 460 is rated higher but it is. maybe ford messed up, i don't know but that came right from ford's website. i looked for a desiel manual but they do not offer one on the website.
