The GPR has a lot of drain to it. Just having the GPR cut-out while cranking will save some juice, maybe starter and batts, too.
But if you find the truck cranks alot for whatever reason, then I'd want the plugs charginf while cranking to get it going.

I think I still have some of those harnesses made up that I was selling eons ago, if you're interested let me know.

Why would you want to by pass your glow plugs? Do you have a starting problem? Sounds like a batt., starter, or glow plug prob.

The glow plugs aren't needed when the engine is warm.

Why put the extra strain on the plugs, relay, batteries and alternator? They all will last longer if strained less.

why not get you some custom tuning and turn them off through the chip. when i got my TW it shuts off the GP's anytime the engine is warm. i haven't looked to see how hot the coolant has to be, but its probably around 115* like the IH deactivation kit is. i would do one of these 2 things before putting a switch on them or anything. i'm not sure what Jim did with them with the harnesses.. i will go look at that now. i would just go with the chip though. i didn't ask for the GP's to be off when the truck was warm. from what i understand Tony does this standard on all his chips

Well, Travis, I'm thinking after noticing how the wait to start light looks that PHP has it also.
But the GP's are on for a second I think. I didn't listen for the relays though, it was to loud and raining.

The switch will keep them off no matter what.
A short burst of electricity is just as bad or worse then firing them up.

Everything has to fire up and think. The GP relay comes on at start no matter what, its just part of the programming, so if it takes 3 seconds for the computer, and 1 second for the GP relay, that's 2 seconds the glow plugs are on. That 2 seconds could be more harmful then the 2 to 3 minutes. Some types of circuits don't like short bursts of electricity. Can damage them.

Are you sure about this, I never have heard about this capability of the chips . And I agree with William. If I have a chance I will test the GPR switch when my truck is warm, I have a switch and a Chip and I can see if the volmeter doesnt register the GPs when warm.

I'd use a clamp on amp meter Jose. And then have somebody tap the key. The amp meter should read that quick draw. and of course, you'll hear the relays being in the engine bay.

I've made my glow plugs manual. I had a problem & just converted them to a push button on the dash. I don't need the plugs to come on here in the summertime & this conversion sure saves me wear & tear.

well i haven't tested it to see if the GP's don't come on at all. i just know that when i got the chip the battery guage never dropped at all when the engine was warm and i went to start it. it cranked MUCH MUCH faster as well!!!! LoL. like i said. no tests were run, but i could if i felt it was important. i don't even have my GPR plugged in right now though. hahaha

Ok thats what I want to know, because I first put the switch and after that the chip and havent take care if the battery gauge dropps in cold or warm starst, because the GPR switch is alwas off, but I have to test it to convince myself. Thanks.

BTW William, thanks for the advice but I dont have a clamp on amp meter. so Im going to base my conclusions in the idiot battery gauge.

I know my batter gauge with the GPR on, and off isn't much different.

I know if i hit the key. i can hear the GRP relay kick.
And after about 2 mins I hear it kick off, but only if i'm standing in the engine bay.

It also sounds like my GPR relay kicks on and off while cranking.
