It's a valve that lives on top of the tank with a hose to the canister. The Ford manual referred to it as a rollover valve, it might be more of a vapor separater valve. But the grommet is old and dried up and will probably leak in a new tank, so I want to change it as a precaution. The valve has a moving ball in it like a PCV valve that probably stops fuel from leaking out in a rollover.

I need a rollover valve and grommet for a 1979 F350 4x4. The manual calls for part number 98953. Does anyone know where I can get these? Thanks......
It's 9B963, not 98953.
I could find no record of 9B953 in the parts catalog, and there no 5 digit part number of 98 anything.
The prefix and suffix must be added to make a complete part number.
*D8FZ-9B963-B .. Valve Assy (Motorcraft CX-203-A)
Obsolete from Ford, but since it also has a Motorcraft number, try an autoparts store...they can cross the Motorcraft number over to the brands they sell.
Found it at Bronco Graveyard. new Valve and grommet. As soon as all the parts are here I'll install the 38 gallon tank. Some people were asking about the big gas tank, I picked it up yesterday and it looks good. Made in Canada, so that's a plus in my book.
National parts depot sells a sender unit to fit the 38 gallon, or the kit comes with directions on modifying your original sender. Now if I could afford to fill it....
