the stock crank pulley was a huge 8 1/2" dia 4 groove. I replaced that with a 4" 2 groove and removed the stock fan and replaced with an electric one, like you said to save some hp.
I could take 5 minutes of my time and use a smaller wp pulley or take 45 mins and buy a new high flow water pump. the new wp might be a better route to go but it only have about 40K miles on the stock one. either way I need to move more coolant.
You could replace your 4" crank pulley with a stock 6", that would speed up the water pump to normal. The Jeg's info: Ford 1965-69 289-302-351 C.I. Passenger Cars, 1965-1977 Trucks

torque1st, no clutch unit. I am using an electric fan. original fan shroud, a 180* thermostat, and 4 core radiator. no a/c no air pump.

I don't want a stock steel crank pulley, smaller or not. no 2 groove wp pulley I need a single.

Getting hot at idle or low speeds is a classic symptom of not enuf fan flow. The vehicle movement forces air thru the radiator at higher vehicle speeds. If you are cool enuf on the highway but getting hot going slow look to insufficient fan flow, not coolant flow problems. Remember KISS! Don't go off on wild goose chases looking for obscure cures for problems when there are simple solutions.

I'm sure its water flow for the reason that the temp was fine at idle with the electric fan before I changed the crank pulley. the fan is 16" rated at 2950 cfm.
just looking in the radiator you can see a less agressive flow.
if I do get an aftermarket pump would it be enough. yeah most of them are rated to flow 20-30% more over stock pumps but that claim is at the stock rpm which I'm no longer at.

Why don't you just go back with a stock pump and pulley? If you are looking for some high end ponies look at the modifications in that newsletter.

I am using a stock pump now. do you mean the stock crank pulley? I don't ever plan on putting the stock one back. I gained to much from the 4" aluminum one to switch it.

Check out that article. Watch aluminum pulleys, they wear out very quickly. That anodized coating lasts for a while and then BOOM!. Watch for any signs of aluminum on the belts. At the first sign of any gray aluminum the pulley is toast.

something to look out for. I haven't heard that one yet. my moroso one has been on for about 4yrs and the coating seems to be fine so far. the one I made for the altenator is bare aluminum and it just has some discoloration in the groove but nothing yet on the belt. maybe I should powder coat it clear to be safe.
what actually happens to the pulley or belt? does the gaulling from the aluminum cause it to slip real bad or something?
