Hello again everyone. It's me again the diesel newbie on the block. What type of fuel additives are you guys using? Do they help increase your MPG? Does it make the engine run smoother? Does summer blend and winter blend have an affect on it?
None of the above. Some have reported mileage gains and some have reported better running conditions, its a safeguard against bad fuel. Just keeps the fuel system clean and a little lubricant additive for the injectors. I used it every tankfull for quite sometime. I stopped when I quit getting it for free. I go back on land this week, and will once again start getting it for free, hence I will be using it every tankfull again.
Firts let me say that I run fuel additives (2% bio AND Stanadyne).
That being said, the ONLY negative that I have heard regarding fuel additives (besides the cost) is that IF you have fuel dilution of your oil, SOME fuel additives can attack the softer metals exposed to your oil (copper, lead, etc). I am not sure how much of a problem this would be, but some reputable folks have said it COULD happen.
"winter" nlend is just some keresene in there the only use for fue additives is if it is a water dispersent which is a good thing once in a while other than that they are not needed just a waste of money. i operated my own big trucks for wel over 3,000,000 miles without additives,,so why would your ittle od pick-up truck need them?
I run Lucas upper cylinder lube in every tank.except the really cold months then i run the white bottle of Diesel KLeen.
i run the syn lucas oil stabilizer with 5w-40 rottelain the winter and 15w-40 rottela in the hot months and race season while towing.usually go 5000-7500 miles per change.
If i could find the lucas 15w-40 oil id run that. but iam to lazy to ask someone at a parts store if they can get it.
