Could be a wornout synchro. It could also be the firewall flexing because of the pressure on the clutch.

Try this: Start the engine and put it in neutral. Put the clutch all the way in and slowly try to slide it into reverse. Does it grind? Push it into neutral and then slowly into first. If it grinds even a little then your clutch isn't fully disengaging.

If there's no grinding, then your synchro is worn out on 2nd gear. A fluid change might help it for a while.

This happens because people don't know how to drive a stick properly. Someone developed a habit of putting the truck in 2nd while going too fast. You should be going less than 10 mph when you put it in 2nd.

its a brass metal ring that syncronizes the gears so the trans shifts without grinding

the part itself is probobly less than $20 but it would require removing and taking apart the trans to replace and although not really that hard not somthing that most people can do themselves

cost would depend on if you or the shop are removing and installing the tran if you remove and take it to a shop i would guess under 500 but if there doing all the work maybe 750-1k

if i were you i would just start out in second when ever possible
